The Bible

An initial insight upon reading selections from The Bible:

God, Word, Light is the schema of creation found in Genesis I. At the very beginning there is a transcendent God, after which comes the Word, realized in the divine proclamation “let there be light.” Following the Word is Light, which is interpreted as light or existence simpliciter. This schema is repeated in John I as a prelude to the gospel; God, or eternal truth, precedes the Word – God’s Law, commandments, and covenants. The Light, to which John bears witness, not only follows but supersedes the Word. Here the Light following the Word is Jesus, his revelations and teachings, and ultimately a new testament of grace.

Upon reflection, I find these connections totally unsurprising. The writers and redactors of the New Testament used the Hebrew Bible as a template - parallel a complex metaphor here, fulfill a little prophecy there, throw in some mysticism to spice things up a bit and voila.

Edit: BARF!

    Try watching Zeitgeist: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1166827/

It will show you more connections.
A bit hard to watch: you must be able to accept some theories.
